Carp fishery lake in Rougham near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. This 3.5 acre lake is undoubtedly one of the prettiest, most tranquil lakes in the region. Its banks are surrounded by mixed woodlands that are home to a vast array of wildlife, including barn owl, woodpecker, deer and fox. The lake too holds its share of wild inhabitants with several species of duck, Heron, kingfisher, a few geese and last year, a pair of black swans. With the lake being surrounded by trees, Autumn time brings not only one of the most colourful times of the year to the lake but also one of the most important. As the trees mass of leaves fall, many find their way into the lake, forming over the years, a black, silt bottom that is enriched with bloodworm and other insect larvae. The fish in the lake are predominantly CARP, with a large head of doubles and enough twenties to keep you happy. The biggest to date is 28.2lb common. Also in the lake is Roach (to OVER 2lb), Bream (to 8lb),Tench (to 7lb), Rudd, and pike to over 20lb.

Ed and Jane Brown started work on the fishery in 1992. A lot of the visitors to Furnace Mill Fishery cannot believe that it has not been around a lot longer than that. Ed spends many hours maintaining the facilities for the anglers but also the local wildlife. The fishery is located in the quite outstanding countryside of the Wyre Forest. The site consists of four pools for the use of both match and pleasure anglers alike. Most of the pegs are accessible to disabled anglers and Ed is usually around to help those who might need assistance.
